Recent craft projects...

So i havent actually been all that busy crafting, ive just been really slack blogging, therefore, lots of craftyness to brag about...

First pic is some very fancy cloth bum wipes, made simply to est out the decorative stitches on my sewing machine. Second pic is a wrap for babywearing, i am wanting a proper woven wrap but in the meantime i plan on getting used to wrapping with this homemade one, just bought 4m of indian cotton from Spotlight, cut it in half so its 60cm wide, then hemmed all the way around. Third pic is a tether blankie for River, the otherside is minky to it's nice and cuddly, there's snaps on each corner to attatch all is things to and clip on the pram, it has proved very handy.

An owl for Ollie...
A crocheted owl beanie for a good friends gorgeous little man, for his second birthday. i love this so much i'll be making one for River too!

Some of River's new nappies, there's quite a few more still in the works. The brown minky and teal paisely one was made from fabric gifted from Mumma Ebz, to match a bandana bib I bought from her. i so love this fabric, i didn't want to butcher it too much, but make a feature of it, im very happy with this nappy, but it wont fit him for as long as the other ones i've made as i made the front straight rather than winged.

Tie dyed front panel, purple minky bum with peace sign applique and rainbow snaps, snap in hemp trifold booster topped with fleece.

I made two of these gorgeous little fluffy bum nappies, one for River and one for River's best mate and belly buddy, Logie Bear. Another collaboration with Mumma Ebz to match bibs. i couldn't find any black minky so i ended up using faux fur, and i'm so glad! they look so cute!

Logie on the left, Riv on the right.

For River's 1st birthday, i bought him a book from Honeybee Toys called 'Pip the Gnome'. i decided to crochet the gnome to go with the story. It was a work in progress and took a few weeks. i made it up as i went along, so he's not perfect, but River loves him and has had him in his cot every night since his birthday.

The completed 'Pip the Gnome' with the book.

Enough for now, Peace out xx

River's Placenta Burial Ceremony

For River's 1st Birthday, we finally buried his placenta. I decided an orange tree was appropriate as I craved oranges while pregnant...
Hole dug, orange tree and placenta ready...
Cuddles with Dad, while I place the placenta in the hole...

I then read this blessing that I wrote...

For River....

May you grow strong, my son.
May your roots wind their way into, and become one with the Earth,
so that that you may stay grounded, my son.
May your branches reach out, far and wide, so you may become wise, my son.
May your leaves be bright as they bask in the sun, so you may be happy, my son.
May you always have room inside a hollow for your family, so you may always feel loved, my son.
May you always let me, your Mama, be your sun.
Look up to me, reach out to me, and you will always feel warmth, my son.

Grant covers our placenta with dirt, and plants the tree.

River checks out his tree.

Sharing a quiet moment, feeling strange that there is no longer a placenta in our freezer, but happy to have said our goodbyes and given thanks for nourishing our little man for 9 and half months.
Our little ceremony was simple and sweet. Can't wait to watch this tree, and River grow.

Peace
xx

One wet Winters day...

So, one miserable and rainy day, I had a little 4 year old who was driving me insane and needed to get out of the house. Fine. I grabbed our coats and gumboots and off we went to Ballam Park...

Due to the rain, the park was deserted, we had the place to ourselves. Might become 'our thing' to go to the park in the rain, it was awesome. Loki was able to play freely....

... while River giggled away in the pram...

Once Loki had had enough of the playground, we were able to explore other areas of the park...

We made some very cool discoveries...

We learnt about the life cycle of trees! I explained to Loki how the oak trees had dropped their acorns in Autumn, they lay on the ground over Winter, and now that Spring was coming they had begun to send out roots into the ground and sprout little leaves. Loki found this all very fascinating, and i felt so super awesome, that i could totally rock the whole homeschooling thing if we ever decided that it was for us.

We saw the signs of spring coming...

But who would have thought that Balam Park could be so beautiful even on a wet, wintery day...

We had such a great time, and I could see in Loki how enriching these experiences were for him...

My gorgeous, clever, gentle boy, who loves flowers and exploring in the rain xx

We collected some of the acorns to take home and continue our lesson...

Here is what they looked like that day, August 18th.

And here they are now...

Peace out xxx

Loki turned 4!

So, Loki turned 4, yes this was in June, but the blog has been neglected so just catching you up ;)

My first born loves Kung Fu Panda, his favourite soft toy which he takes to bed every night, is a panda, so of course i wasn't surprised when he asked for a panda cake. Gosh i wished he was having a party this year, how cool would a black and white themed panda party be?!?! So anyways, i set to work on the panda cake....

Chocolate cake for the head and limbs and vanilla butter cake for the belly.

Most of the icing done. I used butter icing, vailla for the white, cocoa for the 'black' (very dark brown).

and finished! so not what i imagined, lol, but my big four year old was stoked none the less, bless him.

It 'snowed' for Loki's birthday, well, very, very heavy hail. i hadn't seen hail like that since i was a kid, so of course Loki was in total awe of all the cold white stuff we saw when we went out for dinner with his grandparents that night. He was convinced it had to be snow, so of course, we made snowballs. And how cute is the panda beanie i got him for his birthday!?

'I am THIS many!'

Home again for cake.

Happy 4th Birthday Loki darling!
